Visiting Dubai can be a perilous business, as Jamie Harron, a Briton arrested for public indecency three months ago, has discovered. According to him, it was a pure misunderstanding: he put his hand on someone to avoid spilling his drink whilst he squeezed through a crowded bar. But the furious complaint of the other man was enough for Harron to join the long list of travellers who have fallen foul of the laws and customs of a city that – for all its glitzy cosmopolitanism – is a fairly conservative, Muslim state.

Tourists to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been warned not to bring products containing CBD oil into the country. The UK’s Foreign Office (FCO) updated its guidance to the UAE to advise travellers that CBD, short for cannabidiol, is illegal in the UAE and should not be brought into the country.

An Emirati astronaut has made history as the first Arab to reach the International Space Station (ISS), after blasting off from Kazakhstan. The Russian spacecraft carrying Hazzaa al-Mansoori of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who was accompanied by Russia’s Oleg Skripochka and NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, docked on Wednesday after a six-hour trip.
